Samsung has expanded its foldable phone lineup for 2026, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is no longer the only book-style Fold consumers need to consider.
The company now offers three distinct foldables: the premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold8, and the compact Galaxy Z Flip8.
Samsung announced the lineup at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, with general availability beginning August 7. Instead of making all three phones slight variations of the same concept, Samsung has positioned each around a different type of user.
The result is one of Samsung’s most varied foldable lineups yet.
Samsung Now Has Three Different Foldable Experiences
Samsung has spent years refining foldable phones, but this generation changes the lineup itself.
The official Samsung announcement separates the new devices into three roles:
- Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: maximum productivity, performance and camera capability
- Galaxy Z Fold8: a lighter foldable designed around viewing, reading, gaming and everyday use
- Galaxy Z Flip8: a pocketable flip phone focused on quick interactions, portability and content creation
That distinction matters because Fold buyers no longer have to choose between simply buying Samsung’s newest Fold or not buying one at all.
There is now a premium Ultra option and a separate Fold8 with a different size and shape.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Is Samsung’s New Top Foldable
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the headline model.
It is Samsung’s first Galaxy Z Fold to carry the Ultra name, bringing the branding previously associated with Samsung’s highest-end conventional smartphones into the foldable line.
The phone opens to an 8-inch main display and has a 6.5-inch cover display. Despite that large screen, Samsung says the device is only 4.1mm thick when unfolded and weighs 215 grams.
Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with a 5,000mAh battery.
Samsung also gives the Ultra its strongest camera system of the three phones. The main camera uses a 200MP wide sensor, joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and additional telephoto capability.
For people who use a phone for work, content creation or heavy multitasking, the larger unfolded display is the main attraction.
Samsung is emphasizing side-by-side apps and AI-assisted workflows rather than treating the large screen only as a better place to watch video.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at $2,099.99 in the United States, making it a decidedly premium device.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Takes a Different Approach
The regular Galaxy Z Fold8 is not simply a cheaper Ultra.
Samsung redesigned it around a different shape and set of priorities.
Its 5.5-inch cover display opens into a 7.6-inch main display, and the phone weighs just 201 grams, making it lighter than the Fold8 Ultra.
The cover screen uses a more familiar shape for everyday phone tasks, while the unfolded 4:3 display is designed for reading, video, games and other content.
It also uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and includes a 4,800mAh battery.
For photography, Samsung equips the Fold8 with 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide cameras. That is a step below the Ultra’s 200MP primary camera, but still makes the standard Fold8 more than a basic entry model.
Samsung has also introduced Flex Titanium, a new titanium-based display structure intended to support thinner foldable designs while maintaining durability and reducing the visibility of the crease.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899.99.
